Back in May 2025 I was delighted to have my article “Neoliberalism, crises, and solidarity: Hot Docs in focus” published with the European Journal of Media Studies – NECSUS as part of a special issue on film festivals. After Hot Docs reeled from what I argue are the negative consequences from following a neoliberal growth and commercial model, I interviewed several members from the documentary and festival community and wrote up the piece.

The NECSUS article is part of a larger project on Hot Docs, that will culminate with a book published by McGill-Queens University Press hopefully in 2027. While you’re waiting for the book, feel free to have a look at the article, which you can now download as PDF here.
