The apathy (if BG is anything like ROmania) is just a big a problem as the trash. Everyone complains about it (of course the problem is not THEM) but very few will bother to leave the beach/mountain/forest cleaner than they left it. But the prblem is deeper than trash. I'm currently on the Black Sea coast in N. RO and instead of fresh sea air, it's a big lungful of gas refinery fumes. EU funds should be directed into cleaning up what's basically been the dumping ground of Europe's industrial waste (in this case, the Danube) instead of just "development" projects like roads that only quicken the environmental destruction.
